VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – Senate Democrats today blocked legislation backed by Congresswoman Jen Kiggans to restrict Members of Congress from trading individual stocks.
Music to Elaine Luria’s ears. Luria was one of the biggest stock traders in Washington and famously called efforts to ban congressional stock trading “bullshit.”
According to an article on Wavy TV 10, a ban on stock trading by members of Congress has broad bipartisan support but former Rep. Elaine Luria “Is not on board”. Her comment comes after a Market Watch list named her one of the top stock traders in Congress. At the time of printing of the Wavy 10 article, Luria owned millions of dollars in publicly-traded stock with her husband in companies such as Facebook, Apple, Netflix, and NVIDIA Corporation, records show.
“I don’t own or trade individual stocks because I believe Congress should serve you, not our stock portfolios. That’s why I voted and introduced legislation to ban Members of Congress from buying individual stocks,” said Congresswoman Jen Kiggans. “Elaine Luria was one of the biggest stock traders in Congress and said it was ‘bullshit’ to ban her from doing it. Apparently most Senate Democrats think it’s bullshit, too. Virginians deserve better than politicians like Elaine Luria and her friends in the Senate who only look out for themselves.”
